If you’re familiar at all with Brené Brown, you’ll understand why I say, “I HATE VULNERABILITY!” Just kidding. Sort of.

Vulnerability, says Brown, is the key to human connection, “our ability to empathize, belong, love.” If you missed her groundbreaking TEDxHouston talk in June 2010, here’s the link.

I’m going to be vulnerable in this post, and it’s a little bit scary.

During his December 28, 2017 It Matters™ Webinar, “30 Days to a Brighter Life,” our founder and CEO, Keith Denning, introduced us to Brighter Life’s 30-day Challenge for 2018. Beginning January 1, 2018, we’ll have the opportunity to band together with purpose, each reaching upward toward our highest potential and greatest good.  What will help us become more successful? Understanding the WHY.

If we ask the question of ourselves seven times when we’re contemplating an action or a goal, Keith explained, we’ll truly get to the heart of our motivation, thereby very much increasing the odds that we’ll accomplish our objective. (The idea at both 5  and 7 levels deep is similarly discussed in-depth online. Just Google “5 Whys”!)

Ok. So the goal I have is to become more financially self-reliant.

WHY?

To meet my personal obligations without worrying about where the money will come from, and then have resources to help/serve others.

WHY?

To have peace of mind.

WHY?

So my children feel secure.

WHY?

So they don’t miss opportunities.

WHY?

So they don’t suffer from my mistakes.

WHY?

So I know they’re ok.

WHY?

So I know I’m ok.

There’s the root of my why.

Without going into more detail, I know where this comes from. And I have to fix it.

WHY?

Because, following Keith’s additional advice to picture myself already there, I AM ok.
