Coming unto Christ is a continual process. It isn’t a one time event. But a daily, hourly process that requires our continual focus. When we partake the Sacrament weekly we covenant to take upon us the name of the Son and ‘always remember him’. We should keep Him, His teachings, and His Atonement in our hearts and mind and act as He would. We also covenant to ‘keep His commandments’.
Elder David A. Bednar taught “Coming unto Christ is not a single event with a fixed point of beginning or ending; rather, it is a process that develops and deepens during a lifetime. As an initial step in the process, we certainly must obtain knowledge and learn about Jesus and His life, teachings, and ministry. But truly coming unto Him also requires consistent obedience and striving to become like Jesus in our thoughts, motives, communications, and actions. As we ‘press forward’ (2 Ne. 31:20) on the pathway of discipleship, we can draw near unto the Savior with the expectation that He will draw near unto us; we can seek Him diligently with the hope that we shall find Him; we can ask with confidence that we shall receive; and we can knock anticipating that the door shall be opened unto us (see D&C 88:63)” (“Because We Have Them before Our Eyes,” New Era, Apr. 2006, 2).
How can we become more like the Savior? How do we ‘remember’ him in all that we do? How do we ‘press forward’ on the pathway to discipleship? We all have so many thoughts, activities, kids – we have life happening to us,, every day! This is one of the challenges with which we are faced here on the earth.
I don’t have all the answers, but there are those who do. We find the truth, the answers in the scriptures, we find them in General Conference talks, we find them through prayer, fasting and pondering. There are times when we need to seek additional knowledge that may not be readily recognizable in these sources. And that is what Brighter Life is about.
It is about you having additional resources to seek the answers of life. As it says in Doctrine and Covenants 88:118 “And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.” We are to ‘teach one another words of wisdom’ and seek out of the ‘best books words of wisdom’ .
It is our mission to bring to you those who have ‘words of wisdom’ and the ‘best books’ to you to help you to thrive, to find happiness and joy in this life. For that is what our Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ want for us. They want us to live the plan of happiness. They want us to have joy. Yes, we are given challenges and trials to help us grow and become more like them, but this doesn’t mean that we can’t have joy and happiness during the trials.
We invite you to seek the answers our Heavenly Father has in store for you. Brighter Life is here to help so you can find happiness and joy and your Brighter Life.
